Nigerian Press Council is an agency under the Federal Ministry of Information.  It was established by the Nigerian Press Council Act No. 85 of 1992 as amended in Nigerian Press Council Act No. 60 of 1999 to promote high professional standards for the Nigeria Press. Its vision is to create a culture of Ethical Press in Nigeria driven through research and documentation of contemporary press development; training and workshop for journalists; accreditation of programmes in tertiary institutions; enquiring into complaint about the press and monitoring the activities of the press.

The Press Council

 

The Nigerian Press Council (NPC) is a parastatal established by the Nigerian Press Council Act No. 85 of 1992 (as amended in Act 60 of 1999) to ensure the maintenance of high professional standards for the Nigerian Press. Like most other Press Councils around the world, the functions of the Nigerian Press Council revolve around ethical standards.

MISSION STATEMENT

 

To serve journalism and its publics by facilitating access to information; protecting the privileges of journalists and ensuring conformity with the code of ethics; accredit journalism training institutions and carry out capacity building, documentation and research on press development and provide the cheapest and effective means of adjudication for complaints between journalists and the public.
